pop music

jeez, i was actually planning on uploading this earlier this week but time just got away from me before i managed to do so.

yes, it's a slight cop out cos it's only posting up another video instead of some realy informative content.

but after that M.I.A vid i felt the need to share another nine minute music video, this time, the King of Pop and the video for Smooth Criminal courtesy of VH1's pop up video show from back in the day

yeah, back in the day, when only three music channels actually existed and they all played music videos.

what a glorious time that was, when being a British teenager often meant that you spent any time in front of the telly flicking between MTV and The Box and if they weren't showing any titillating videos of Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera then you may switch over to check out VH1 instead

oh, the reminiscing

enjoy

this is my jam....

is it so wrong for me to enjoy singstar so much?

it's intimate karaoke for the socially awkward and the vocally challenged is a godsend for those that don't wish to make a complete fool of themselves infront of a crowd but are quite happy to make a fool of themselves infront of a small number of people that are already aware of what a fool you are...

other people might actually be good at singing, but that is my opinion of it anyway

and while my best friend was away on holiday i borrowed her pile of games and microphones and spent two weeks nagging my girlfriend to come round and play

after initially thinking the game or the microphones were broken i eventually found my form and my toneless voice managed to kick ass singing The Jackson 5, Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff, The Cure, The Smiths and Radiohead

ok, it wasn't all winning streaks but i feel overwhelmingly proud when i can start comparing myself to Morrissey and Thom Yorke

Rest In Peace

this is a slightly late and slightly wayward tribute to Michael Jackson

Its not like i've been deeply affected, but i am saddened by his death

i found out he had died while at Glastonbury, which was a strange experience, a mixture of word of mouth and over-subscribed mobile networks had a bizarre filtering effect on the news and what many took as festival rumour was soon distorted, embellished and ridiculed... but when the persistent rumour refused to go away and texts from the outside world said the same, you had to accept that news of Michael Jackson's death could be true

i'm an eighties baby and have strong memories of Michael Jackson and his music, like watching the video for Black and White for the first time, trying to moonwalk like everybody else, impersonating Jacko's trademark moves and yelps and being round my cousin's listening to HiStory over and over again, and these are just the first thoughts that come to mind

and i think Michael Jackson is set to become the Elvis of our generation, his contribution to the world of entertainment and his musical legacy will long live on and eclipse the darker times of his life and lower points of his career

out of respect i've tried to curb my morbid curiosity and avoid the media circus that still surrounds Wacko Jacko in death

and of course, we all know that death is the best career move
